The Lagos State Government has announced plans to begin full enforcement against illegal land reclamation and waterfront encroachment starting October 15, 2025.
According to the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the decision follows the expiration of a grace period earlier granted to developers and individuals involved in unauthorized reclamation activities.
The enforcement will involve the removal of illegal reclamation structures, seizure of equipment, and prosecution of offenders under state environmental and urban development laws.
Wahab noted that the move is aimed at protecting the environment, curbing flooding, and ensuring public safety. He also cautioned residents against purchasing land or property from unapproved reclamation operators
