Security tension heightened in Delta State as the Department of State Services (DSS) intercepted a major arms shipment allegedly destined for criminal groups in Asaba and its environs.
Peak Newspaper Correspondent confirms that the operation, led by the DSS Delta Command, resulted in the arrest of two suspects, a notorious arms dealer, Stephen Sabo Atoshi, and a secondary school teacher from Taraba State.
Weapons recovered included seven General Purpose Machine Guns, AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, and military-grade items hidden inside bags of beans along the Asaba–Onitsha Expressway.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori praised the DSS for its intelligence-led operation and ordered a statewide crackdown on arms trafficking networks.
He also condemned the recent killing of Warri youth leader Jerry Aduara, directing security agencies to bring all perpetrators to justice.
The DSS vowed to sustain surveillance and dismantle all illegal arms routes threatening peace in Delta State.
