The Lagos State Government has appealed to medical doctors under its employment to call off their three-day warning strike, which commenced today, Monday, July 28, assuring that negotiations are actively ongoing to address their grievances.

In a statement released by Tunbosun Ogunbanwo, Director of Public Affairs at the Lagos State Ministry of Health, the government acknowledged the concerns raised by the Medical Guild and stressed its commitment to resolving all issues amicably.

“The Lagos State Government remains committed to the welfare, motivation, and productivity of all healthcare workers. All grievances are being looked into with utmost sincerity and urgency,” the statement read.

The Medical Guild — the umbrella body of doctors employed by the state government — had on July 26 declared a three-day warning strike, citing unresolved salary-related issues and alleged illegal deductions by the Lagos State Treasury Office.

Chairman of the Guild, Dr. Japhet Olugbogi, during a press conference at the Guild’s secretariat in Lagos, said the strike followed repeated failed attempts at resolution through dialogue. He noted that the crisis began in April with unilateral deductions from doctors’ salaries, which, although later reversed, resumed again in July without explanation.

Among the Guild’s demands are:

Immediate reversal of the July salary deductions
