2027 General Elections: Reps Propose Single-Day Voting for All Offices
In a move aimed at streamlining Nigeria’s electoral process, the House of Representatives has proposed that all elections—presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly—be conducted on the same day during the 2027 general elections.
The proposal, which is part of ongoing electoral reforms, seeks to reduce election-related costs, minimize voter fatigue, and curb post-election tensions caused by staggered voting.
Supporters argue the unified approach will enhance efficiency and boost voter turnout, while critics caution about potential logistical and security challenges.
The bill is currently under consideration and may face further debate before passage into law.
