Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has inspected the scene of a major fire outbreak that gutted the Great Nigeria Insurance House on Lagos Island, spreading to and affecting over 10 nearby buildings, Peak Newspaper reports.
Following an on-the-spot assessment, the governor announced that the 25-storey building will be demolished, citing safety concerns. He assured affected traders and property owners that the state government will provide necessary support to help them recover from the incident.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also used the opportunity to urge residents to be safety conscious, especially during the dry season when fire outbreaks are more common.
Authorities confirmed that no casualties were recorded, although significant property damage occurred.
Emergency agencies remain on ground to manage the aftermath and prevent further risks.
