The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has warned that corruption continues to mask Nigeria’s abundant blessings and prevent the country from attaining its full potential, Peak Newspaper reports.
Olukoyede made the remark on Wednesday in Abuja while delivering his Christmas message to Nigerians, calling for national unity in the fight against corruption as a necessary step toward prosperity and sustainable development.
According to him, corruption remains one of the biggest obstacles to Nigeria’s growth, denying the nation the “abundant life” God intends for it.
“Let us come together to make our nation greater, stronger and richer. Corruption is a setback, and we must confront it more decisively to allow God’s abundant life to manifest in our country,” he said.
The EFCC chairman urged Nigerians to collectively reject corrupt practices and embrace integrity, stressing that only a united and principled society can build a prosperous, resilient and globally respected nation.
He also called on citizens to uphold the values symbolised by Christmas—love, light and hope—describing them as essential ingredients for Nigeria’s progress.
“Nigeria needs the refreshing hope, love and light that Christ brought to the world,” Olukoyede added.
Olukoyede further appealed to Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying it should inspire renewed confidence in the nation’s future and strengthen belief in Nigeria’s capacity to overcome its challenges.
“Let the Renewed Hope agenda of Mr President rekindle fresh hope in us and reinforce our belief that Nigeria will rise again,” he said.
His comments come amid ongoing economic hardship, declining public trust in governance, and intensified efforts by law enforcement agencies to tackle corruption and financial crimes across the country.
