A tragic incident unfolded this morning in Ibadan when a stray bullet, allegedly fired by a policeman in pursuit of a suspect, struck and killed a school student on his way to sit for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC), Peak Newspaper Nigeria reports

The incident occurred along Alakia Road, where eyewitnesses say a police officer opened fire while chasing a fleeing motorcycle or vehicle. In the chaos, one of the bullets reportedly struck the student, who was in a vehicle with his father and twin brother.

The victim was immediately rushed to Welfare Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Sources confirmed that the deceased was on his way to the examination center alongside his twin brother when the tragedy happened.

In response, irate protesters, including local residents and students, took the student’s lifeless body to the Oyo State Secretariat, demanding justice and calling on Governor Seyi Makinde to intervene.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the matter, but tensions remain high in the area as the community grapples with the loss and calls for accountability.
