The Chairman of Odigbo Local Government, Honourable Taiwo Adegoroye has urged parents and guardians to be a good role model to their children and to “instill a sense of self-confidence and responsibility in them.”
Honourable Adegoroye made the call for good parenting during the Odigbo Local Government Children’s Day celebration in Ore, Ondo state.
“Essentially, parents must be good role models, instilling a sense of self-confidence and responsibility in their children and monitoring more of what their children do outside and inside the house,” he said.
Citing bullying, sexual molestation, and other ill-treatments often perpetrated against Children, Adegoroye highlighted the need for effective child protection measures and ensuring that children are always in safe environments.
Revealing strategic security measures by the Government of Ondo state to protect children, Adegoroye noted “The Ondo State Government under the able leadership of Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has expressed the desire of his administration to implement anti-bullying policies and programmes to end the scourge in various educational institutions across the state. We therefore use this occasion to encourage all stakeholders in this Local Government to support and cooperate with the Government in its bid to ensure a bullying-free learning environment.”
Furthermore, Adegoroye reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of his administration towards education in the Odigbo Local Government. He stressed “One of the needs of a child is education. This is where his or her intellect will be cultivated and knowledge about the universe will be acquired. It is also through education that life sustaining skills will be learnt, as our world is becoming increasingly digitalized and knowledge driven. Children growing up without good education and morals are at a disadvantage and their future is very bleak. Parents and guardians must therefore strive to give the best education to their children in order for them to be relevant and competitive in life.
“In addition, our children and youth have a significant role to play in ensuring that our democratic institutions of governance are continuously nurtured, improved and strengthened to underpin national development and prosperity. You should therefore, shun all forms of future destroying vices including cultism, internet fraud, pre-marital sex, prostitution and drug abuse. If not, your future could be jeopardized, because you are the hope and future of this great nation.
“My administration will do everything possible to provide the best education for our growing children, through the provision of quality school teaching aids and materials, enhancement of social welfare and provide the right environment for children and their parents to thrive and protect the right of a child,” Adegoroye vowed.
