Israel and Hamas have both agreed to begin implementing U.S. President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan aimed at securing the release of hostages and bringing an end to the war in Gaza.
Israel’s Prime Minister’s Office confirmed early Saturday, October 4, that it would work “in full cooperation with the President and his team” to implement the first stage of the plan. The move comes after Hamas, late Friday night, announced its willingness to release all hostages — both living and dead — under Trump’s outlined exchange formula.
While the U.S. proposal envisions a 72-hour timeframe for the release, senior Hamas official Mousa Abu Marzouk said the process could take longer given current field conditions.
As part of the broader deal, Hamas has also indicated readiness to transfer governing authority in Gaza to an elected Palestinian body supported by Arab and Islamic nations, alongside the handover of its weapons to the future leadership.
Trump, writing on Truth Social, hailed the development as a step toward “long sought PEACE in the Middle East,” insisting Israel must halt its bombardment of Gaza to allow for a safe and orderly hostage release.
