The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has explained why it approved a ₦1.5 billion fee for providing certified copies of the National Register of Voters and polling unit details.
The request, made by V.C. Ottaokpukpu & Associates, sought voter data for all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
INEC said the amount was calculated based on its approved rate of ₦250 per page, as provided under Section 15 of the Electoral Act, 2022, and in line with the Freedom of Information Act, 2011.
The commission stated that the voter register contains over 93 million names spread across more than six million pages, leading to the total cost of ₦1.5 billion.
INEC clarified that the charge only covers duplication and certification, not administrative fees, and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency
