A Corps Member, Miss Marvelous Chizaram Chikezie, has constructed a hand-pump borehole at Sabongari Damba Community in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State to ease the challenge of water supply in the area.
Chikezie, an indigene of Imo State, is serving in the state as a member of the 2024 Batch C Stream I service year, Peak Newspaper reports.
She executed the water project as her Personal Community Development Project in collaboration with the Zamfara State Rural Water Supply Agency.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony today, the State Coordinator, NYSC Zamfara, in Mallam Muhammad Lawan Ahmed, represented by the Head of Guidance & Counselling Branch, Mrs. Victoria Sule, commended the Corps Member for the lofty initiative.
Lawan noted that the water project is essential to the health and well-being of the people, adding that it aligns with the mission of the NYSC to positively impact rural communities.
“One of the key objectives of the NYSC is to touch the lives of rural dwellers by initiating projects such as this borehole, aimed at addressing their felt needs.
“Corps Members are doing a lot in Zamfara State, and we will continue to partner with relevant stakeholders to deepen our impact in the state,” he said.
In his remarks, the Director of Operations, Rural Water Supply Agency, Mr. Bashiru S. Ahmed, described the borehole as a milestone that will serve a long-term need of the community.
He urged the beneficiaries to maintain the facility and noted that the borehole has been nicknamed “Corper’s Borehole” as a reminder of the Corps Member’s legacy.
In her speech, Miss Marvelous Chikezie expressed gratitude to God and to everyone who supported the realization of the project.
She said, she was moved to execute the project after a visit to the community during the dry season, where she witnessed the severe scarcity of water.
The Corps Member particularly acknowledged the support of her sponsors, NYSC supervisors, and project engineers, Mr. Jamilu Ma’aruf Olawale and Mr. Khalid Zakariya.
“I hope this project brings succour to the people who need water for their daily activities and improves the quality of life of the beneficiaries,” she said.
In his closing remarks, the community head, Mai Angwa Shuaibu, thanked the Corps Member for choosing the community.
He said the water project will serve as a relief to residents and complement other sources of water in the area. He also offered prayers of goodwill for the project initiator.
