Members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikosi-Isheri have called on President Bola Tinubu, Lagos State governor, Babajide-Sanwo -Olu and the state House of Assembly to enforce the no third term agenda for council chairmen in the state, especially in Ikosi -Isheri, where Hon. Samiat Abolanle Bada holds sway as enshrined in the newly signed local government administration law of 2025 by the state governors, Sanwo- Olu.
Governor Sanwo-Olu recently signed into law the Local Government Administration Law 2025, a landmark piece of legislation that redefines tenure limits, succession rules, and disqualification criteria for Chairman and Vice Chairmen across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
According to the aggrieved APC members, the new law, which took effect this year, has been enforced in Agbado-Oke Odo LCDA, where a former vice chairman was disqualified from seeking re-election due to his prior succession into the chairmanship, questions are now being asked why Ikosi-Isheri situation should be an exemption.
They added that the APC flag bearer reportedly followed a similar path serving as chairman, stepping in after the chairman’s death , and then won a four year term as chairman.
Stating that despite effectively serving across two tenures, the Ikosi-Isheri chairman has not only been cleared to contest again but was also officially unveiled at the party’s campaign flag-off held at the Lagos APC State Secretariat, a violation of one of the new Law, which stipulates that,” When the Vice Chairman or any person takes over the office of the Chairman on the death or impeachment of the chairman for the remainder of the term in office, such term shall be counted as a full term for the person taking over the office of the chairman.
Following the impunity perpetrated by some actors in Ikosi-Isheri Local Government, political observers are of the opinion that for the Ikosi-Isheri scenario not to be seen as favoritism, double standards and selective application of the new law to favour certain candidates, as it happened in Agbado-Oke Odo for serving what is deemed a full term, then the same should apply in Ikosi-Isheri,” they submitted.
The party’s stakeholders in Ikosi-Isheri insisted that the alleged ongoing anti-party activities in Ikosi-Isheri APC, regards the upcoming Local Government election in Lagos violates:
Section 28 (1) of the new Law states that a person elected as Chaurman shall hold office for a term of four (4) years commencing from the date Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Office are administered, unless the person-
