The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the sum of N1.4 billion to support the prosecution of terrorism cases involving suspects linked to Boko Haram, Peak Newspaper reports.
The allocation represents a 159 per cent increase compared to previous funding, signaling a renewed push to accelerate the trial of terrorism suspects and strengthen Nigeria’s justice system in handling insurgency-related cases.
Officials say the funds will be used to enhance legal processes, improve court logistics, and ensure faster dispensation of cases tied to terrorism, particularly in the North-East where insurgency has persisted for over a decade.
The move is also part of broader efforts by the government to reinforce national security, ensure accountability, and deliver justice for victims affected by extremist violence.
Security analysts believe that speeding up trials could help decongest detention facilities holding suspects and demonstrate stronger institutional response to terrorism in the country.
