Fresh disagreement has emerged within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State over the legitimacy of candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, with former House of Representatives member, Hon. Mike Omogbehin, and PDP Publicity Secretary in Okitipupa Local Government, Aderibole Oluwaseyifunmi Patrick, taking opposing positions, Peak Newspaper reports.
Omogbehin, in a news published by Starnews NG, claimed that the Ondo PDP currently has no legitimate candidates for any of the National Assembly elections, describing politicians parading themselves as PDP candidates as “gatecrashers.”
“The PDP has no candidates for any of the National Assembly elections ahead of 2027,” Omogbehin declared, adding that some of those presenting themselves as candidates were unknown to the recognised party structure.
He also argued that the state executives elected in September 2025 remain the legitimate leadership of the party in the state and accused some politicians of attempting to bypass the existing structure to obtain party tickets.
However, In an Exclusive interview with Peak Newspaper Aderibole rejected the claim, urging party members and the public to disregard it.
“We urge the general public and our party members to ignore these claims and remain focused, disregarding these political distractions,” Aderibole said.
He further maintained that candidates who emerged through recognised party processes retain their legitimacy, maintaining that previous internal disputes and litigation do not automatically invalidate properly conducted primaries.
The disagreement highlights the continuing internal dispute within the Ondo PDP over party leadership, nomination processes and the legitimacy of candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
