Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been deducting ₦100 billion monthly from the Federation Account without constitutional approval, describing the action as impeachable, Peak Newspaper reports.
Speaking on the matter, El-Rufai claimed that the alleged unauthorised deductions have been ongoing for over 15 months, bringing the total amount involved to about ₦1.5 trillion.
According to him, funds from the Federation Account are meant to be shared among the federal, state, and local governments in line with constitutional provisions, and any deductions must follow due process and receive the necessary approvals.
El-Rufai argued that bypassing these procedures undermines fiscal federalism and deprives states and local governments of resources meant for development, adding that such actions, if proven, amount to a serious violation of the constitution.
The former governor urged relevant authorities and lawmakers to investigate the claims, insisting that accountability and transparency must be upheld at the highest level of government.
As of the time of filing this report, the Presidency has not issued an official response to the allegations.
The statement has sparked widespread debate across political circles and social media, with Nigerians calling for clarity on the management of the Federation Account and adherence to constitutional processes.
