Founder of Peak Newspaper Nigeria and human rights activist, Comrade Olatunji Babatunde has knocked Nigeria’s Anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its outright violations of human rights in the approach of their arrest and prolonged detention of outspoken popular activist and social media sensation, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.
In a statement he posted on his social media pages, Comrade Babatunde likened the conduct of VDM’s arrest by EFCC to terrorist organizations’.
Furthermore, he expressed concerns over EFCC’s alleged disregard for the rule of law and fundamental human rights, stressing the need to call the agency to order, to avoid anarchy and continuous abuse of power.
He asserted “the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is a criminal terror organization. Any group that kidnaps citizens, imprisons people and ignores the law of the land is a criminal terrorist organization.
Comrade Babatunde’s call for EFCC’s transparency, accountability and respect for human rights follows VDM’s arrest by EFCC operatives on last Friday at a Guarantee Trust Bank branch in Abuja, when the activist went to report multiple unauthorized transactions on his mother’s GTB account.
Speculations that VDM was assaulted, blindfolded before he was whisked away by the EFCC have sparked widespread concerns by Civil Society Organizations, politicians, celebrities and influential figures, including Amnesty International, TIB movement, Davido, Peter Obi, Atiku, Cubana Chief Priest and numerous others.
Reports suggested that VDM has been granted an administrative bail, but there is no proof of his release as at press time.
