President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has announced that the Dangote Refinery will supply up to 65 million litres of petrol daily to meet Nigeria’s domestic fuel demand, while exporting a surplus of up to 20 million litres, Peak Newspaper reports.
In a statement released, Dangote said the refinery has concluded a structured offtake agreement with selected petroleum marketers to guarantee efficient nationwide distribution of petrol and eliminate recurring supply instability across the country.
According to him, the move is aimed at stabilising fuel availability, reducing dependence on imports, and strengthening energy security in Nigeria. He added that the refinery’s capacity positions it to not only meet local consumption needs but also serve international markets.
Industry analysts say the development could significantly ease pressure on Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves and bring greater stability to fuel pricing, while boosting the country’s role as a major petroleum products exporter.
The Dangote Refinery, located in Lekki, Lagos, is Africa’s largest oil refinery and is expected to play a transformative role in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
