An Ikorodu Magistrate Court in Lagos yesterday, ordered dual DNA tests for Liam Aloba, the only son of late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

The order follows a petition filed by Joseph Aloba, Mohbad’s father, who raised doubts about the paternity of the two-year-old boy and insisted on scientific verification.

The court directed that the DNA tests be conducted in two accredited laboratories — one in Lagos and another abroad — to ensure accuracy and credibility.

The development comes nearly two years after Mohbad’s sudden death in September 2023, which sparked nationwide outrage and calls for justice.

His demise remains under investigation, with an autopsy conducted in 2023 still shrouded in controversy.

Family tensions deepened after Joseph Aloba publicly demanded a DNA test to confirm Liam’s paternity, alleging that Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Aloba, had been avoiding the procedure.

Omowunmi has consistently denied the allegations, insisting that Liam is Mohbad’s biological child.

The court ruling has reignited heated public debate, with some Nigerians backing Joseph Aloba’s demand for clarity in order to resolve inheritance disputes and ensure transparency in ongoing justice processes, while others criticise the move as harassment of the grieving widow.

Mohbad, a former Marlian Music signee, rose to fame with hit singles such as Ponmo, Feel Good, and KPK (Ko Por Ke).

His mysterious death at the age of 27 led to widespread protests and renewed scrutiny of the Nigerian music industry.

The DNA test results, once completed, are expected to play a significant role in determining legal guardianship, inheritance claims, and the family’s next steps in their pursuit of justice over Mohbad’s death.
