The Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, has commenced the payment of June and July upkeep allowances to student beneficiaries across the country, Peak Newspaper reports.
The development was confirmed by the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, as some beneficiaries also shared screenshots of payment alerts on social media.
In a statement on Friday, NANS National President, Akinteye Babatunde, assured students that the disbursement had begun and that all outstanding backlogs would be cleared.
He urged beneficiaries who were yet to receive their allowances not to panic, explaining that the payments were being processed in batches.
The development follows weeks of complaints by students over delays in the payment of monthly upkeep allowances under the Federal Government’s student loan scheme.
The upkeep allowance is part of the NELFUND student loan programme, which provides monthly financial support to eligible students of tertiary institutions, alongside tuition payments made directly to institutions.
