Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga has declared that the political ambitions of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar are in jeopardy. Onanuga asserts that Atiku’s proposed coalition is unraveling due to the defection of crucial allies to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a post on X, Onanuga criticized the coalition, which includes former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, ex-SGF Babachir Lawal, and Labour Party’s vice-presidential candidate Yusuf Baba-Ahmed, claiming it was falling apart. He added that Atiku’s political future now looks bleak, with former allies like Ifeanyi Okowa and members of the defunct CPC distancing themselves from what he referred to as Atiku’s “leprous group.”

Onanuga’s remarks follow a similar statement by another presidential aide, Tunde Rahman, who highlighted the deepening crisis within the PDP. Rahman pointed to the defection of former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the APC, calling it “the biggest shocker ever” for Atiku, whose 2023 presidential bid ended in defeat.
