The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday inaugurated its new national secretariat in Abuja, a former building used by ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar during his last presidential campaign. Notably, Atiku and Labour Party’s Peter Obi—both courted for full ADC membership—were absent from the event, Peak Newspaper reports.
ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, dismissed suggestions that the move signaled a political realignment, emphasizing that the party had simply taken over the building. He reaffirmed the ADC leadership’s commitment to fairness and cohesion ahead of its February congresses.
“Former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and His Excellency Peter Obi were given until the end of the Anambra election to make a decision. Now that the election is done, we expect everybody to return fully. Leadership positions remain unchanged,” Abdullahi said.
Speaking at the unveiling, ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, described the new headquarters as a symbol of the coalition’s ambition to reshape Nigeria’s political future. “This ADC coalition is a historic child of necessity, inspired by people’s desire for good governance, accountability, and stronger democracy,” he stated, noting the complex would serve as a hub for strategy, policy development, and leadership grooming.
The ADC continues to push for all coalition members to formally resign from their parties and register fully with the ADC—a move that has faced resistance from some prominent figures.
