A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State and Convener of The Alternative Movement, Segun Showunmi, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to consider a political solution in addressing the case of the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, Peak Newspaper reports.
Showunmi made the appeal on Monday, days after Kanu was sentenced to life imprisonment, urging the President to explore “statesmanship, dialogue, and national reconciliation” rather than relying solely on the judicial outcome.
He argued that resolving the matter politically would help reduce tensions in the South-East and contribute to broader national stability.
The PDP stalwart noted that while the law has taken its course, leaders must sometimes take “bold and compassionate steps” to heal divisions and build trust across the federation.
