In a display of unity and civic duty, youths and students from Akoko and across Ondo State took to the streets today to demand justice and accountability after a recent incident that created tension in the community, Peak Newspaper reports
The peaceful demonstration drew a large crowd and was marked by orderliness, discipline, and a clear sense of purpose. The protesters called for the restoration of community barricades and the closure of illegal openings that had allegedly been used by trucks for unauthorized passage and money collection.
Their efforts produced immediate results. The barricades were fully restored, and the illegal routes were completely blocked, signaling a major win for the people.
Representing the Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the Deputy Governor, His Excellency Olayide Owolabi Adelami, visited the scene to assess the situation and interact with the demonstrators. His presence showed the government’s commitment to listening to the people and taking swift action.
Also present was the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, who assured residents of ongoing peace, fairness, and order as the authorities work to maintain security and justice in the area.
After the peaceful exercise, the President of Akoko Youth Nation, Blessing James Akeju, thanked all participants for their discipline and unity. He described the outcome as a collective victory for justice, transparency, and the spirit of Akoko.
“This is not just a win for us; it’s a win for truth, accountability, and for the Akoko people who never give up,” Akeju said. “We must continue to stay peaceful, watchful, and united as we work together for a safer and better Ondo State.”
The Akoko Youth Nation has since urged all residents to remain law-abiding and vigilant while praising the state government and security agencies for their quick response to the people’s concerns.
