Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured Nigerians that political campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections will not disrupt the legislative activities of the National Assembly, Peak Newspaper reports.
Akpabio said lawmakers were elected to serve four-year terms and would continue to perform their constitutional responsibilities despite their involvement in political campaigns.
He explained that lawmakers could schedule campaign activities around their legislative work, noting that campaigns could take place in the afternoons or evenings while parliamentary duties continue in the mornings.
According to him, members of the National Assembly belong to different political parties, meaning they would not all be campaigning at the same time.
Akpabio insisted that the development would not affect lawmaking, stressing that the National Assembly would continue to enact laws addressing the needs of Nigerians.
