The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly considering new restrictions that could limit the entry of pregnant foreign women into the United States as part of efforts to curb what officials describe as “birth tourism.”, Peak Newspaper reports.

The proposal comes after the U.S. Supreme Court blocked an executive order that sought to end automatic birthright citizenship for certain children born in the United States.

Speaking on the issue, senior White House adviser Stephen Miller said the administration is reviewing measures to prevent individuals from travelling to the U.S. primarily to give birth and secure American citizenship for their children.

White House officials say President Trump remains committed to tightening immigration policies and has asked Congress to consider legislative action. The Department of Justice is also expected to prioritize investigations into alleged birth tourism schemes.

Supporters of the proposal argue it is aimed at preventing abuse of the immigration system, while critics are expected to raise legal and human rights concerns if such restrictions are implemented.

At this stage, no formal ban has been announced, and the proposal remains under consideration.
