A seasoned broadcast journalist with Ogun State Television (OGTV), Abeokuta, Mrs. Bukola Agbakaizu, tragically passed away on Monday after she reportedly slumped while preparing for her afternoon shift at the state-owned television station.
Her sudden demise was confirmed by the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, Mr. Bunmi Adigun, in a statement issued in Abeokuta, as reported by Vanguard on Tuesday night.
According to the statement, Agbakaizu collapsed unexpectedly while getting ready for her afternoon duty, and despite swift efforts to resuscitate her, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Federal Medical Centre.
Describing her as a dedicated and passionate journalist, Adigun noted that Bukola served as a former Vice Chairman of the OGTV Chapel and was an ex-officio member of the NUJ Ogun State Council until her passing.
“A versatile journalist and a passionate comrade, Bukola was an invaluable member of the Wale Olanrewaju-led Executive. Her vibrant spirit and unwavering commitment to journalism will be deeply missed, leaving an irreplaceable void in our community,” the statement read.
The late journalist, aged 52, is survived by her two children, an aged mother, colleagues, and numerous friends.
Meanwhile, following her sudden death, health experts and observers have reiterated the importance of regular medical check-ups, stressing that many individuals unknowingly walk around with undiagnosed health conditions, often resorting to self-medication.
Mrs. Bukola Agbakaizu’s untimely passing serves as a sobering reminder of the need to prioritize health amidst busy work schedules.
