US Congressman Bill Huizenga has slammed President Tinubu’s administration for downplaying Nigeria’s worsening insecurity during a hearing on Nigeria’s CPC (Country of Particular Concern) status in Washington, according to Peak Newspaper Washington Correspondent.
Speaking before the US House Subcommittee on Africa, Huizenga accused Nigeria’s delegation of excuses and denial:
> “It ought to be outrageous that Christians, moderate Muslims—anyone—are being terr0rised by radicalised Islamists, and the Tinubu government is sitting back and not doing enough.”
Huizenga also criticised both US media and members of Congress for trying to downplay the k!ll!ngs, referencing the Christmas Eve 2023 massacre that left 200 people dead.
He questioned the pattern of religiously targeted attacks:
> “Do we see Christians k!ll! ng Muslims the way radicalised Islamists k!ll Christians in Muslim areas?”
The hearing comes weeks after President Trump reinstated Nigeria on the CPC list, accusing the government of failing to protect religious minorities and hinting that “military options” were on the table.
The Tinubu administration rejected the claims, insisting Nigeria is a democracy that protects religious freedom.
