President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to use his second term in office to promote unity, peace, stability, democracy and the rule of law, Peak Newspaper reports.
Tinubu gave the advice when Adeleke and members of his team visited him at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, following Adeleke’s re-election as governor of Osun State.
Speaking during the meeting, the President congratulated Adeleke on his electoral victory and said the outcome reflected both the will of God and the decision of the people.
Tinubu praised Adeleke’s political mobilisation and urged him to see his victory as an opportunity to strengthen the state rather than as a defeat of his political opponents.
“You did not conquer anybody. You won an election. That’s the essence of democracy,” Tinubu told the governor.
The President also advised Adeleke not to stigmatise or target his opponents because of the outcome of the election.
“Promote democracy. Promote stability. Promote rule of law. Don’t stigmatise any of your opponents,” he said.
Tinubu urged the governor to focus on governance and the welfare of residents, stressing that state governments have a major responsibility to provide infrastructure and basic services for the people.
He listed areas including roads, housing, rehabilitation of schools, healthcare, training of teachers and health workers, as well as support for vulnerable families.
According to the President, the people living in the states depend heavily on their state and local governments for many of these essential services.
“Let the Will of the People Prevail”
The President emphasised that democracy should allow citizens to freely choose their leaders and that political actors should be able to celebrate peaceful and credible elections regardless of who wins.
He said anyone operating within a democratic environment should be willing to respect and celebrate the outcome of a free and fair election.
Tinubu therefore encouraged Adeleke to approach his second term with a focus on governance, unity and the overall development of Osun State.
The President’s message to the governor was clear: the election is over, and the responsibility of governing now belongs to everyone in Osun State.
