President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received a fresh list of ambassador-designates cleared by the Department of State Services (DSS), marking a key step in Nigeria’s diplomatic appointments, Peak Newspaper reports.
According to multiple presidency sources, all security and background checks have been completed, and the list is now awaiting Tinubu’s approval before being forwarded to the Senate for screening.
Only nominees for “major partner countries” will be announced first due to the high cost of settling ambassadors abroad. Others will follow in phases. The move comes amid diplomatic tensions with the U.S. and aims to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign missions globally.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed circulating lists on social media as false, reaffirming that ambassadorial appointments remain the exclusive prerogative of the President.
