Former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has appealed to residents of Jabo District to remain calm and continue supporting security agencies following a recent military operation against terrorists in the area, Peak Newspaper reports.
Tambuwal made the call on Sunday during a visit to the community after explosions were recorded between the night of December 23 and the early hours of December 26, during a coordinated operation by the Nigerian military and allied United States forces.
He described the incident as unfortunate and expressed sympathy with residents affected by the development, praying that such an occurrence would not happen again.
According to him, incidents of this nature often generate fear and anxiety among communities, stressing the need for reassurance and unity at such moments.
Tambuwal commended community leaders and residents for maintaining peace despite the situation, noting that their calm disposition prevented tension and panic.
He stressed that terrorism should not be viewed as a religious or ethnic conflict but as a common enemy to all law-abiding citizens.
“This is not a religious war or an ethnic war. Terrorists are enemies of everyone, and we must not tolerate them in any form,” he said.
The senator urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies and government authorities, adding that peace and security are essential for economic activities and freedom of worship.
In his response, the District Head of Jabo Community, Alhaji Aliyu Graba, thanked Tambuwal for identifying with the people and standing with them during the difficult period.
He also commended the government and security agencies for their swift response, assuring that the community would continue to support efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace.
