Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, has paid a condolence visit to Her Excellency Aisha Buhari, the widow of Nigeria’s late former President, General Muhammadu Buhari, at the family’s private residence in London.

The Vice President arrived in London earlier today to personally express the nation’s sympathies following the passing of General Buhari, who died on Saturday, July 13, after a prolonged illness. The 82-year-old former Nigerian leader served two terms in office between 2015 and 2023.

The atmosphere at the Buhari residence was solemn, as dignitaries, family, and close associates gathered to comfort the former First Lady. Among those who paid respects was former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, and APC Executives in the UK.

Also present were several notable figures including Nigeria’s former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, former President of Ghana and Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defence among others.

A funeral prayer (Janazah) for the late Buhari is scheduled for 9:00 PM today at the London Central Mosque, located at 146 Park Road, London NW8 7RG.

The body is expected to be flown to Nigeria tomorrow for final burial rites in accordance with Islamic tradition in Daura, Katsina State.

General Muhammadu Buhari, a former military ruler who returned to power through democratic elections, left various lasting impacts on Nigeria’s political landscape. His passing has drawn tributes from across Africa and beyond.

Further updates are expected following the Janazah service and repatriation of his remains to Nigeria.
