The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared a three-day mourning period for former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on July 13, 2025, in London. The mourning will start on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, and during this time, the party will suspend all political activities and public statements.
The ADC criticized the current administration and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for attempting to exploit Buhari’s passing for political gain. According to the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, those who had undermined Buhari’s legacy were now posing as chief mourners, which he described as “sheer hypocrisy”.
The ADC urged Nigerians to reflect on Buhari’s values and legacy, and to demand high ethical standards from future leaders. The party also warned Buhari’s family and loyalists to be cautious of political opportunism during this time.
