Former senator for Kaduna Central Shehu Sani has disputed former governor Nasir El-Rufai’s assertion that lecturer and social media commentator Abubakar Idris, popularly called Dadiyata, was not a critic of the Kaduna State Government, Peak Newspaper reports.
In a statement following El-Rufai’s earlier comments, Sani said Dadiyata was widely recognised for his outspoken criticism of El-Rufai’s administration, contrary to the former governor’s claim that Dadiyata’s focus was on the then Kano State Government under Abdullahi Ganduje.
Sani emphasised that many residents of Kaduna and political commentators viewed Dadiyata’s commentary as directed at state leadership, including policies and governance under El-Rufai. He said dismissing that record oversimplifies how citizens engage with government actions and undermines those who speak on public concerns.
The disagreement between El-Rufai and Sani adds to broader debate over the circumstances surrounding Dadiyata’s 2019 disappearance from his Kaduna home and the narratives about his criticism of government.
