The Rivers State House of Assembly has clarified that the impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu is ongoing and has not been suspended, contradicting recent online reports.
In a statement signed by Enemi George, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Petitions and Complaints, the Assembly said the process, which began on January 8, is being conducted in line with constitutional provisions. Two notices of gross misconduct have been forwarded to the governor and his deputy, with their responses awaited.
The Assembly described reports claiming the process was halted as “false narratives” intended to mislead the public. It reiterated its commitment to uphold the law and carry out its constitutional duties despite intimidation or threats.
The allegations against Fubara include demolition of the Assembly complex, extra-budgetary spending, and refusal to comply with a Supreme Court ruling on legislative financial autonomy.
