The Enugu State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading the social media reports alleging that the country home of Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Frank Mba, in Ezimo, Udenu Local Government Area, was attacked by gunmen.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, clarified that there was no attack on DIG Mba’s residence, nor any attempt to abduct his parents or relatives.
According to Ndukwe, the incident being misrepresented occurred on September 18, 2025, at about 8:00 p.m., when operatives on routine patrol in Ezimo responded to a distress call and successfully repelled an armed robbery attempt in the community.
Tragically, a police officer sustained gunshot injuries during the confrontation and later died in hospital despite efforts by doctors to save him. One male suspect was arrested at the scene and he is assisting investigations, while a manhunt has been launched for other fleeing members of the gang.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, has ordered an intensified pursuit of the criminals and assured residents of the Command’s determination to crush violent crime across the state.
“The public is urged to disregard the fake viral reports and support the police with timely and credible information to aid our operations,” the statement read.
