Troops of Sector 5 under Operation PEACE SHIELD have rescued 10 kidnapped victims in Kaduna State, marking a major breakthrough in the fight against banditry, Peak Newspaper reports.
The victims were abducted on 29 November 2025 while working on their farms at Ungwan Nungu in Sanga Local Government Area, prompting an immediate search-and-rescue mission.
At about 6:40 a.m. on 5 December, the troops engaged the kidnappers as they arrived to collect ransom from relatives of the hostages.
The criminals were overpowered by superior firepower and fled into the surrounding forest, abandoning the victims.
All 10 captives, including one adult man, three male children, three elderly women and three female children, were rescued unhurt and later reunited with their families.
Items recovered during the operation included a fabricated AK-47 rifle, a round of 9mm ammunition and ₦1.6 million identified as part of the ransom.
The Army said the operation brought relief to the traumatised community and demonstrated the effectiveness of sustained military pressure.
It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens, denying criminals freedom of action and restoring peace across affected communities.
