After more than three decades in policing, former Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has formally bowed out of service, highlighting key reforms he said strengthened the Nigeria Police Force during his tenure, Peak Newspaper reports

Egbetokun spoke on Thursday at a ceremonial pull-out parade held in his honour in Abuja, marking the end of his leadership as Nigeria’s 22nd indigenous police chief.

Addressing officers and dignitaries, he described the office of the Inspector-General as a continuous institutional responsibility rather than a personal achievement.

Reflecting on his time in office, Egbetokun cited reforms aimed at boosting professionalism and operational capacity, including upgrading the police intelligence bureau to a full department, strengthening the cybercrime centre, expanding police mobile force squadrons and improving training and infrastructure.

Paying tribute, the current Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, said Egbetokun’s retirement marked the close of a distinguished policing career spanning over three decades, defined by calm leadership and a vision for a professional and people-focused police force.
