Peter Obi has criticised President Bola Tinubu over his recent visits to France, Kenya and Rwanda, insisting that foreign trips by government officials must produce measurable economic benefits for Nigerians, Peak Newspaper reports.
The former Labour Party presidential candidate said overseas engagements should go beyond diplomatic ceremonies and translate into investments, trade opportunities, job creation and improved living conditions for citizens.
Obi stressed that at a time of economic hardship, Nigerians expect every government expenditure, including international travel, to directly impact national development and economic growth.
His comments add to ongoing political debates surrounding the cost, purpose and outcomes of foreign trips undertaken by public office holders.
