The Owa Obokun and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, has removed Chief Busuyi Gbadamosi as the Oba-Odo of Ilesa, Peak Newspaper reports.

In a statement personally signed by the monarch and made available to Peak Newspaper on Saturday, Oba Haastrup said Gbadamosi was found guilty of unlawfully removing and selling two electricity transformers from the Post Office at Atakumosa Market in 2023 during the reign of the late Owa, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran.

A petition from residents of Araromi, Adeti, Palace and Odo Osunmu communities, who relied on the transformers, was reviewed by a committee set up by the current Owa.

Witnesses, including the Iyaloja of Atakumosa Market and the Araromi Youth Leader, testified that Gbadamosi attempted to sell the equipment and offered them money to back the transaction, which they rejected.

During questioning, Gbadamosi admitted selling one 300KVA transformer for N120,000 and claimed he used the proceeds to transport a 500KVA unit to Ibadan for repairs.

Despite being given 30 days by the committee and an additional week by the monarch to return the transformers, he failed to do so.

“In view of the unlawful, illegal removal, sale and conversion of the proceeds of sale of the two transformers by Chief Busuyi Gbadamosi, and in order to preserve the culture and tradition of Ijesaland, he is hereby removed as the Oba-Odo of Ilesa,” the Owa said in his statement.

The paramount ruler ordered Gbadamosi to vacate the chieftaincy house and warned the public against recognising or addressing him as the Oba-Odo of Ilesa.
