Graduating students of the Electrical and Electronics Department, Osun State Polytechnic, Iree (OSPOLY), have showered heartfelt tributes on their Head of Department, Engineer Omotayo Mayowa, in recognition of his generosity, kindness, exemplary leadership, and unwavering commitment to their academic growth and personal development, Peak Newspaper reports.

In several appreciation posts circulating on social media, a significant number of students of Elect/elect department, in OSPOLY, who graduated today, recalled how Engr. Mayowa’s support went beyond the classroom, touching their lives in remarkable ways.

Victoria Oyediran, a graduating student, recounted how his encouragement sustained her through financial and personal struggles. “Engineer Omotayo, God used you to bless me financially and morally. Your encouragement and prayers kept me through this academic journey. I pray the Lord bless you and your family,” she wrote.

Similarly, another student, Ayomide Oluwatoyin, described Engr. Mayowa as a “father figure, mentor and one of my biggest supporters throughout my journey, from ND to HND.” She further recalled, “I will never forget how you paid my school fees when I was struggling financially and still continued to support me. That kind of love, patience and sacrifice can never be repaid. You’ve touched my life in a way words can hardly describe.”

Also paying tribute, the Faculty of Engineering President, Comrade Awodele Emmanuel Olaniyi, hailed him as “an exceptional leader whose positive impact has left an indelible footprint on the lives of students.”

“You have been more than just a HOD— you have been a mentor, a father figure, and a visionary leader whose impact goes beyond the four walls of the classroom,” Emmanuel added.

Furthermore, the President of OSPOLY’S National Association of Electrical and Electronic Students (NAEES), Folajin Victor, via an appreciation message, lauded Engr. Omotayo Mayowa for his guidance, encouragement, and humility, noting that Omotayo’s life of constant encouragement inspired him throughout his tenure as departmental president.

“Thank you, sir. God bless and strengthen you always,” he stated.

Speaking with Peak Newspaper Nigeria, Engr. Mayowa—who was honoured on August 21, 2025, with “The Most Supportive HOD of the Year” award by the Ex-Student Union Caretaker Committee (SUC) Chairperson, Olaniyi Ajoke Deborah—said he was overwhelmed by the tributes and prayers from his students.

“I was in awe when I saw the numerous tributes dedicated to my selfless dedication to my students. I have always believed that I am not a lecturer by accident, but by God’s divine plan— God positioned me at a pivotal juncture in the lives of my students. I see it as a calling,” he said.

He emphasized that his passion lies in helping students grow academically, discover purpose, fulfil destiny, and become worthy ambassadors of OSPOLY, their families, and Nigeria at large.

“Even though I do all I do for God’s sake, without expectations from men, the love and honour from my students is motivating and reassuring. It shows that students are not ingrates; they see our sacrifices,” he added.

However, he appreciated his colleagues at the Elect/elect department, for supporting him and also contributing immensely toward the growth of the students of the department. He equally acknowledged the management of OSPOLY for providing an enabling environment where both members of staff of the institution and students thrive.

As the class of 2025 graduates, Engr. Mayowa wished them success in their future endeavours: “God bless them all,” he concluded.

Some of Engr. Omotayo Mayowa’s notable achievements as Head of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department include the refurbishment of the departmental administrative blocks, the successful accreditation of the HND programmes, and the installation of transmission demonstration lines for practical training.
