The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, has rewarded academic excellence with cash gifts running into millions of naira at the convocation ceremony of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State, Peak Newspaper reports.
At the event, the monarch awarded ₦6 million to the institution’s Best Graduating Student, Miss Kemisola, a Microbiology graduate who finished with an impressive CGPA of 3.87. Her achievement drew loud applause from the audience as the Ooni praised her dedication, discipline and commitment to academic excellence.
In addition, six other best graduating students, one from each faculty, were rewarded with ₦1.5 million each, in recognition of their outstanding academic performances.
The Ooni also honoured two lecturers with ₦2 million each for their remarkable contributions to research and innovation, stressing the importance of encouraging intellectual growth and creativity within Nigeria’s education system.
Speaking at the ceremony, Oba Ogunwusi revealed that he is an alumnus of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, having graduated from the institution over 30 years ago as an Accountancy student. He described the polytechnic as a place that played a major role in shaping his life and career.
The monarch urged students to pursue excellence, integrity and innovation, assuring them that hard work and dedication will always attract recognition and rewards.
