The Obidient Movement has called for urgent intervention and legal support following the detention of activist and content creator Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama P, by the Edo State Police, amid controversy over her alleged attack on Labour Party National Chairman, Julius Abure, at Abuja Airport.

In a post on X, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, Interim National Coordinator of Obidient Movement Worldwide, declared, “I have just spoken to our legal Director to deploy lawyers to her Resque. We want more people to come for her Resque lawyers and all concern should please mount immediately … We need everyone support for her NOW!!!”

Tanko’s message described the detention site as the State CID at the Edo State Police Headquarters off Sapele Road, Benin City, and framed the action as part of a broader pattern of suppression.

The Movement urged its members, lawyers, and civil society groups to mobilise and demand her immediate release.

The controversy began when Abure was reportedly attacked on Friday at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, while preparing to board a Max Air flight to Benin.

According to Labour Party sources, a woman identified as Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama P, allegedly confronted Abure in the boarding queue, continued to assault him on the flight, and proceeded with the confrontation upon arrival in Benin.

The party condemned the assault as politically motivated.

Labour Party’s publicity secretary, Obiora Ifoh, said Mama P ignored pleas from flight attendants, recorded parts of the altercation on video, and later boasted in social media posts that she had connections in the police hierarchy which would shield her from consequences.

Following the assault, security officials intervened to remove Abure to safety, and Mama P was handed over to police authorities.

She is now reportedly under detention at the Edo State CID.

Local reports suggest parts of the detention and processing may not have been transparent. The Obidient Movement’s threatened legal intervention comes amid growing tension around the case.

As of now, neither the Edo State Police Command nor the Force Public Relations Officer has issued a formal statement confirming the details of her detention or outlining her rights to counsel.
