The Nigeria Police Force has secured another international milestone as Commissioner of Police (CP) Olubode Ojajuni emerged victorious in the election for membership of the INTERPOL Africa Committee.
Ojajuni’s triumph came at the 27th INTERPOL African Regional Conference held in Cape Town, South Africa, where he won a keenly contested poll that earned Nigeria the fifth seat on the Committee for a two-year tenure.
The INTERPOL Africa Committee plays a pivotal role in shaping continental policing strategies. It advises the African Regional Conference in executing its mandate, facilitates sessions, identifies strategic crime priorities, and fosters cross-border security cooperation. The Committee also drives best practices and develops projects designed to strengthen regional and continental security architecture.
This development reinforces Nigeria’s growing influence in global law enforcement, particularly in tackling transnational crime, terrorism, and other emerging security threats. With CP Ojajuni’s election, Nigeria is expected to play an even greater role in shaping regional and global policing under INTERPOL’s framework.
Congratulating Ojajuni on the feat, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the achievement as a boost to Nigeria’s international standing in law enforcement. He reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to professionalism, integrity, and international collaboration.
“Through active engagement with global partners, the Nigeria Police will continue to promote peace and security worldwide,” the IGP said.
The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, described the election as a testament to Nigeria’s leadership and credibility in international policing.
