Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has stated that Nigeria is not naturally a poor country but was looted into poverty through years of corruption, mismanagement, and bad leadership, Peak Newspaper reports
Obi made the remark while addressing supporters during a political engagement, where he stressed that Nigeria possesses enormous human and natural resources capable of transforming the nation if properly managed. He argued that the country’s economic challenges are largely the result of systemic corruption and poor governance rather than a lack of wealth or potential.
According to him, Nigeria can still recover and achieve sustainable development through accountable leadership, investment in education, production, and policies focused on reducing poverty and improving the standard of living of citizens.
Obi further stated that Nigerians must demand transparency and responsible governance from leaders, insisting that the country’s vast resources should translate into better opportunities and economic prosperity for citizens rather than widespread hardship.
