The Debt Management Office (DMO), disclosed that the Nigeria’s total public debt has risen to ₦152.40 trillion as of June 30, 2025 — up from ₦149.39 trillion recorded at the end of March.
The sharp increase reflects both domestic and external borrowings, fueling debate on whether the current administration’s borrowing strategy is sustainable for Africa’s largest economy.
Analysts warn the rising debt could place more pressure on government revenue and the naira, while others argue that increased borrowing is needed to fund infrastructure and economic growth.
