The APC Youth and Students Council (KASASCO) has rejected the planned return of Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing a press conference at the NUJ press centre, Kano, on Tuesday, KASASCO said the APC does need Kwankwaso in its fold.

According to the group, Kwankwaso’s return “would bring no benefit to the party, either directly or indirectly, given his clear political decline”.

It said under the current leadership of Prince Abdullahi Abbas, the APC in the state enjoys a strong position with two sitting senators, many members in the House of Representatives and the State House of Assembly.

KASASCO also pointed out that Kwankwaso’s political party, the NNPP, is facing massive defection of its significant pillars in the state, and that the majority of the key elements that brought it to power in the 2023 general elections had joined the APC.

Among them, it said, are the serving Senator representing Kano South, Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, the member representing Rano, Kibiya and Bunkure Federal Constituency, Abdullahi Sani Rogo, the member representing Rogo and Karaye Federal Constituency, Zubairu Hamza Massu, member, Kano State House of Assembly representing Sumaila constituency and Muhammad Diggol, a former Commissioner in the state.

“They all dumped the party as a result of the unjust and imbalanced treatment they received after all they had sacrificed to the Kwankwasiyya movement in Kano State.

“KASASCO emphasises that the APC has successfully resolved all its past internal rifts and is fully focused on the task ahead, and seeing that NNPP is at the brink of collapse in Kano State by experiencing massive defection, APC is optimistic to deliver Kano with over two million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates in 2027.

“Kwankwaso’s political relevance has come to an end. He now seeks political refuge by any means, knowing that only the APC could provide him cover.

“But the APC is not a refugee organisation, nor is it seeking the likes of Kwankwaso, whose presence could only disrupt the unity and progress of the party”, the group said.

It commended the APC National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for his tireless efforts and leadership to ensure the party’s victory from the national level to the grassroots.

“Our commendation is also extended to Senator Barau Jibrin for his effective political strategy, which has led to 80 percent of the Kwankwasiyya movement being absorbed into the APC”, the group added.
