Governors of the South-West states on Monday converged on Ibadan, Oyo State, for an emergency security meeting aimed at tackling the rising influx of bandits and other criminal elements into the region, Peak Newspaper reports.

In attendance were Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo, and Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti. Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, was represented by his deputy.

Although the details of the discussions were not immediately disclosed, a top government source familiar with the agenda said the meeting was convened to address escalating security threats, accelerate key infrastructural interventions, and reinforce regional cooperation under the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN).

“The emergency meeting was convened to address rising security concerns, fast-track infrastructural development, and strengthen regional integration,” the source said.

The governors are also expected to review the existing joint security framework across the zone, particularly the operations and capacity of the Amotekun Corps, in light of emerging security challenges.
