Northern governors have warned that the region is at a critical point. They say that without urgent action to address rising violence, kidnappings, banditry, and deepening poverty, the North risks losing its future.

At a recent meeting with traditional rulers and community leaders, the governors stressed that the crisis is widespread, affecting schools, communities, and livelihoods. They warned that the instability is not just a security issue but a threat to the social and economic fabric of the region.

The governors proposed key measures to reverse the decline, including the establishment of state-level police for faster response, mobilizing local leaders to promote unity, improving education and infrastructure, and ensuring swift justice for crimes.

They emphasized that the legacy of today’s leaders will be judged by whether future generations inherit a safe and stable Northern Nigeria. Urgent and coordinated action, they said, is essential to prevent the region from sliding further into insecurity and poverty.
