The Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Samaila Bambu, has been reportedly abducted by suspected bandits in his hometown, Bagudo, in Bagudo Local Government Area.
Sources said the lawmaker was kidnapped on Friday evening by gunmen believed to be members of the Lakurawa terrorist group.
Confirming the incident, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, told journalists that he had just received the report and was awaiting full details from security agencies.
“Yes, I just got the information about the alleged abduction of the Deputy Speaker in his hometown this evening. I am in touch with the Director of Security in the state,” Idris said.
He added that the state government was closely monitoring the situation.
“Once I get the details of what transpired, I will alert you very soon on the government’s position,” he said.
Idris assured that Governor Nasir Idris’s administration was “on top of the situation” and would ensure the lawmaker’s safe release.
