The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has constituted a team to investigate the alleged assassination claims by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
Akpabio petitioned Egbetokun, demanding investigation and prosecution of the senator over the claims.
In the April 3 petition, and copied to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, Akpabio described the allegations as “defamatory” and called for legal action to preserve peace and his safety.
Egbetokun, who confirmed that a team is investigating the matter through Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said he will unravel the truth.
Adejobi said: “Yes, we have received the petition from the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
The IGP has directed a team to investigate it”. Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, while addressing her supporters during a homecoming gathering on April 1, accused Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello of plotting to have her killed.
